Welcome to Barton Apartments at 140 Hodge, a historic residential haven with roots dating back to 1892. Originally founded in a private residence on Bryant Street, the demand for accommodations swiftly led to the addition of a second building within a year, boasting an additional 40 beds.In 1911, the eastern portion of The Annex was designed by the esteemed local architect W.A Kidd. A few decades later, in 1927, the dynamic duo of F.J and W.A Kidd, along with their son, left an indelible mark on the landscape by crafting the west portion of The Annex, the Folwell building (housing the maternity ward), and the iconic Barton building.Nestled on a sprawling five-acre parcel, the Barton Apartments are rich in history, featuring an interconnected network of tunnels in the basement. Constructed during a time when Buffalo stood as the 7th largest city in the United States, the Barton building played a vital role in addressing the pressing health concerns of its era.
